A Morning Treat

Xander has been fabulous in the morning lately. He's been sleeping in until at least 7, then he'll yell once and just babble and giggle away until I arrive on the scene. When I do go into his room he stands up and tries to take off his sleep sack, which he always forgets that I need to unzip first. But I'll unzip it and he'll step out, lean over, pick it up and hand it to me. Then we proceed to diaper change and picking out clothes.

This morning had one small detour. Xander stood up when I came in, but leaned over to pick up something small. He was very focused, using his thumb and finger. I was wondering what could be in the crib that was so small and figured maybe he's just seeing something. He stood up and held out his pinched fingers for me to take what he'd picked up. I reached out and received a little, soft, gooey booger. Xander seemed pretty proud of himself.

The results are in!

I had the big 20 week ultrasound yesterday. Chris couldn't get out of work, so he was on the phone. Enchilada was not at all shy and the doctor was pretty quickly able to determine that Enchilada is a girl! "Yup," the doctor said, "no outdoor plumbing there."

The doctor proceeded to take lots of pictures (and when Chris gets a chance I will let him take care of editing and posting) and said that everything looked healthy and the baby was about 12 oz. Enchilada has heart, spine, limbs, the works.

Then the doctor said "I checked again. Still not a boy." She probably said this because when Chris heard 'girl' he let out his loud, nervous, disbelief laugh.

I waited till I was in the car to laugh and mildly freak out. Not that we're going to have a daughter (although visions of pink clothes keep clouding my head) but having two kids. I'm going to have to take care of TWO KIDS. Nursing one, making chicken nuggets for the other. And I'm back to enjoying my sleep. I can kiss that good-bye! And double the diaper changes!

And deep breath. Hmmm, I wonder how Chris would feel about Amanda Junior for a name.

Week 19

Ok, so I bucked up and took a quick picture for prosperity. I'm not even going to look back to see how big I was at 19 weeks the first time around. I've had a belly for a while and now there is no denying it's a pregnant belly and not a too-many-Cadbury-creme-eggs belly.

I think Chris said it already, but Enchilada is on the move. It's just sweet little thumps every now and then, but I'm already having visions of a foot in my ribs during the last month.

my kid is funny!

This morning started off with our alarm clock (Xander) waking us up at 6:35. There is no snooze button on that one, but ignoring him sometimes works as a snooze. It didn't work this morning so Amanda suggested we to go to 7:30 mass. Might as well, everybody's up.

We forgot how quiet it is at 7:30 mass. Do you know how quiet 7:30 mass is? It is so quiet that when a belch is burped, it echos off of the tabernacle.

We've been getting better at keeping him quiet during mass; but I felt like we were on high alert at this mass because we were trying extra hard keep him quiet. It went pretty well through the first 2 readings. By the time the homily rolled around we were watching him take handfuls of goldfish and shoving them into his mouth and trying to keep the mess to a minimum. After communion he decided to start saying 'hi' to everyone. Of course, given how quiet it was and the fact that he has only one volume setting it was heard across the church. That was then followed by more burping from speed eating goldfish. Which, as you may suspect, echoed off of the tabernacle.

However, despite all this, we didn't have to leave to the quiet room. He was complemented by a stranger on his good behavior --incredible! He hasn't received one of those in a while so we soaked it up and enjoyed it.

Yesterday we had a great time watching the nature channel together. I was laying on the couch and he sat on my belly for a good 10 minutes. That had to be a sitting still record. It had to be.

He has been throwing his toys down the cat door once in a while. However now he follows it by trying to go down the cat door himself. It doesn't work, but it's really cute. We've taught him to get on his belly when he goes down the stairs; so he gets on his belly and tries to go feet first through the cat door. Then at some point he keeps trying and crawls backwards down the hallway distancing himself from the basement door. Hysterical!

He is starting to be a little boundary tester too. Standing up on the couch, standing on the furniture, taking dvds out of the dvd player. It seems that on the weekends when I'm home all day all I say is "Sit down! Don't touch!" over and over again.

And in other news, we are excited about the new baby. Amanda says she is starting to feel Enchilada moving around. The pregnant hot/cold flashes seem to be gone. The belly is getting bigger and more noticible. I'm not allowed to take pictures this time. Maybe I'll be allowed to get one or two one of these days.
