And so it begins

Xander rolled over today.

I look up and he is on his side and in a long drawn out moment, he was on his stomach.

He refused to repeat the stunt saying his contract only required one roll over a day unless he deems otherwise.

5 Months (and some odd days)

Xander has another cold which he caught from me this time. He handles it well when he's getting attention, but last night was rough. He was not happy and let us know it, I finally brought his bouncy seat up to his room so he could sleep on an incline and his poor little sinuses wouldn't be so stuffy. There is occasional sneezing or coughing, but no fever. Hopefully we can ride it out in another day or two.

Here's what else Xander has been up to:

He is a champion thumb and finger sucker now. No particular preference as to which he likes more, some days it's the last two fingers on his hand, on other days it's a thumb and on the tough days he double fists it and tries to shove as many fingers in as he can. On a fun day he sucks on his lower lip, which is freakin' adorable.

Speaking of adorable, he's found his toes and I love when he reaches and plays with his foot. He hasn't tried to shove that in his mouth yet.

As I type he is making noise over in his swing. Turns out he is trying to sit up (it is in the recline position). He also likes to stand on your lap when you hold him up.

We have a little leg workout that we do with Xander. We hold his feet and move his legs around to accompany the following "Running through the woods, scooter, bicycle, skiing, skating, pogo." If he's in a bad mood it will cheer him up, if he's in a good mood he'll get wiggly and laughing.

He is laughing more :)

He chats a lot, but is still deciding what language. Sometimes it's vowels and consonants, sometimes it is raspberries, and he has now added more screeching. Seriously, it's like a banshee in pain.

He is also grabbing and reaching everything. And if he gets it, it goes into him mouth. My shirt sleeves, any toy or blanket, even hair.

Xander's eyes are still blue and he still has rosy cheeks. No one knows where his hair is heading yet, sometimes it looks curly, sometimes it looks a little red, usually it just looks straight and dark.

Why yes, I do have more videos

Since it's Saturday I thought of all of the chores I could do around the house. But I realized that it's more important to get videos of Xander.

It took me several tries to get those raspberries on tape because the flash on the camera would distract him. Finally I turned it on and spun it around. He can go for almost an hour making that noise.

And Xander is now a krumper. 'This image has not been sped up.'

In other news, I added Peek-a-Boo to his repertoire of games. I can't believe I'm honestly playing it. But he just laughs so loud, it's worth it. I just wonder why he's laughing at me so hard...

Happy Valentine's Day

From Xander's head!

The camera has magically healed itself and has a clear video image (at least for the moment). So here's just a random cute clip:

And guess what I just missed getting on film here:

Yeah, he actually rolled over from lying face down onto his back three times in a row. Granted he had the pillow under him, but he wasn't just falling off the edge of it. Chris liked to replay the video over and over just to laugh at me.

We'll see if he can still do it or if he'll wait another four months to do it again.

Nothing to See Here

I guess we are already boring to our own son.

Last week I realized we had to get Xander something to entertain him and for him to practice reaching and such. I looked in stores (too expensive) and resale stores (not much selection) and finally found two baby gyms I liked on craigslist. I agonized over which to get and finally decided on this Baby Einstein play mat.

I think he likes it!

In other news, last week Xander made a huge leap in the eye-hand coordination arena. Seriously, within days he progressed from looking at his penguin to seeing the penguin, swinging his arms up to grab the penguin in a vice-like grip and plunging it towards his gapping mouth. It was hilarious to watch.

Sure, his grab isn't always perfect but even when he misses or only gets one hand on it he will get really happy and start flailing. I find the whole thing particularly funny when he tries this with his Eeyore and Eeyore's big face or with Cookie Monster and gets googley eyeball in his mouth. Now he even starts smiling just when he sees one of the toys just lying beside him.
